Have you ever been caught in an accident where you’re not at fault and had no proof to back your claims up? Well, you’re not alone as many drivers around the world share the same issue. That’s why so many people have opted to buy a dashcam for their car, with the numbers of sales increasing each year. Car crashes are extremely common around the world and it’s more important than ever to protect yourself while driving and to make sure you don’t get in hot water for something you didn’t do. So today when I was driving and I looked up at my dashcam and felt safe, I knew I had too relay the message to you guys and do research on dash cams to show you the importance of buying one.

WHAT ARE DASHCAMS?

Dashcams are small, portable cameras that mount to your windshield and/or the rear window. They constantly record video with sound while you are driving, even when the car is parked. A dashcam’s main purpose is to record road events that occur when driving. Typically, they cost anywhere from $35 USD to $250. I’ll cover the main reasons why dash cams are so useful, such as the fact that they are evidence, help with insurance claims, and can make you a better driver overall.

EVIDENCE

Using dashcams as evidence is probably the main reason why they are used while driving. Say you get into a car accident where you are not at fault and want to go to the nearest police station or collision center. It’s hard for the police to take your word for everything you say when you recount the events that happened. This is why it’s important to have a dashcam because with it, you can show the entire video footage of the accident which clearly shows proof. This irrefutable evidence will aid the police with their investigation and help clear your name. In addition, dashcams could serve as evidence for accidents that you witness, especially with dangerous and reckless drivers that you encounter. Showing videos of their driving will help the police punish them and in turn, this will get more offenders off the roads. Altogether, when it comes driving, having a dashcam with a high video quality is a crucial necessity to make sure that you and the roads you drive on, are safe.

INSURANCE

Insurance fraud is a very common issue with motorists and other staged accidents by cyclists or pedestrians. Having a dashcam onboard will greatly reduce the risk of your insurance premium increasing because of this. If you show the insurance company the proof you were not at fault and that the accident was an attempted scam by the other party, then your insurance premium will not increase. Some insurance companies even offer insurance policy discounts for having a dashcam. This just shows how helpful dash cams can be while driving and that they will always serve as indisputable proof to take down attempted insurance fraud.

HELPS MAKE YOU A BETTER DRIVER

Another reason why dash cams are useful is that they can make you a better driver. This is because having a camera present while you are driving will instinctively make you drive more cautiously in case you get caught in an accident. Being a disciplined driver that follows the rules will help keep the roads safe. The more people start using dashcams, the more careful they will be and this will ultimately result in fewer car accidents.

Bottom Line

To sum up, a dashcam will prove extremely useful in many situations you find yourself in while driving. Not only will having one make you a better driver naturally, but it will serve as evidence when you are involved in an accident and will help prevent insurance fraud.

Dashcam Recommendations

With all this being said, the features you should be looking for in a dashcam include high video quality (1080p at least), a good amount of onboard video memory, loop recordings, the ability to work at night and heat/cold resistance. So with these factors as well as the different budget levels in mind, some dashcams that I would recommend are the TOGUARD 4K Dual Dash Cam, CHORTAU Dash Cam 1080P FHD 2021, and the Vantrue N1 Pro 1920x1080P Dash Cam.
